   NAME
hytelnet - hypertext browser for Internet-accessible telnet sites

   SYNOPSIS
     hytelnet [ options ]

   DESCRIPTION
Hytelnet is a general hypertext browser, packaged with Peter Scott's
database of Internet-accessible telnet sites. Hytelnet lists libraries,
Campus-Wide Information Systems, Freenets and more. Hytelnet is avail-
able for Unix, VMS and IBM PC systems. This version should work on any
system with a reasonable Curses implementation.

The database consists of many more-or-less plain text files, all in a
single directory. Any text in angle brackets (eg ) is a link.
Selecting a link moves you to the named file. Filenames are mapped to
lower case, so refers to the file "help".

The program notices telnet, tn3270, rlogin, ftp, and finger commands
embedded in the files, and will execute them for the user, if desired.
PAD commands are supported for JANET users.

Arbitrary system commands may be placed in angle brackets, preceeded by
an exclamation mark, e.g. . If a command or filename is followed
by a colon and some text, that text is displayed on screen instead of
the command or filename. For example, appears as
     .

   COMMANDS

Use the cursor keys to move around in Hytelnet. The up and down arrows
move you from one highlighted link to another. Use the right arrow (or
) to follow a link, and use the left arrow (or u) to come back.
You can also use vi and emacs cursor keys.

     Other commands include:

m Return to the main menu (the first screen you see when you start
          Hytelnet)

     + or
Scroll down to the next page

     - or b
Scroll up to the previous page

     / or i
Search the index. Only the first line of each file is indexed.

v Print the software version number.

     ? Help

     q Quit Hytelnet

   OPTIONS

path Alternate database location (eg. /export/hytelnet or cn000). If a
simple filename is given (eg. cn000), Hytelnet displays that file
from the default hytelnet database (/usr/local/hytelnet).

     -secure
          disables external commands

     -name
          disable use of Internet name

     -number
          disables use of Internet number

   NOTES
This is the third release of the Unix/VMS version of Hytelnet. It
corresponds to HYTELNET 6.5 for the IBM PC.

The IBM PC version uses Neil Larson's HYPERRES hypertext browser. This
program uses the same file format as HYPERRES, and it is possible to
plug-and-play other HYPERRES databases as well.

On VMS systems, it is no longer necessary to put the terminal in pasthru
     mode before running Hytelnet.

Hytelnet can unzip files as needed, which is slow, but may be useful if
you are short of space. For this to work, place unzip on your path, and
place hytelnet.zip in your hytelnet directory.

Hytelnet checks for files outside the zipfile before it looks inside, so
you can speed things up by unzipping the most commonly used files. This
also means that you can perform updates by dropping the new/changed
files into the same directory as the zipfile.

     /usr/local/hytelnet/index the index file
